Blog Tour - Chasing the Stars by Virginie Grimaldi

An uplifting novel of mothers and daughters, families and extraordinary friendships that will make you laugh and cry.

This journey could change everything...

Maybe if she hadn't lost her job, Anna would never have dreamed of being so impulsive. Or perhaps if Chloe wasn't always having her heart broken, or if Lily was happy at school. But when Anna realises that her family is falling apart, only a grand, spontaneous gesture will do. Which is how Anna, Chloe and Lily find themselves squashed together in a campervan, on a mother-daughter road trip across Europe to reach the Northern Lights.

The girls are horrified, but Anna is determined. This journey might just be their way back to each other.

Virginie Grimaldi's novel 'Chasing the Stars' is an easy read which transports the reader through Europe as mother and daughters, Anna, Chloe and Lily, take a road trip across Europe to see the Northern Lights.

'Chasing the Stars' is a great read, which celebrates the relationship between mothers and their daughters. It is one of those stories that is easily relatable.

Blog Tour - The Years of Us by Gemma Roman

Today I am pleased to be taking part in Random Things blog tour to celebrate the publication of Gemma Roman's 'The Years of Us'.

30528122. sy475
Five friends. Life, love and a night that will put their friendship to the test.

Following University, a group of friends plan to stick together, but will they survive distance, career changes and lustful love triangles?

Life throws unexpected realities their way, and one fateful night brings their lives into harsh perspective. Minor mistakes result in them questioning who they are and who can be trusted. Can they rebuild the foundations of friendship and move forward or will the test of time finally set them adrift forever?

As soon as I saw the cover to 'The Years of Us' I was intrigued. It is such a simple but enticing cover that I had to know more about the book and now I have read the book I am encouraging everyone to pick up 'The Years of Us' and discover this fantastic read.

'The Years of Us' is a well written novel, with five main characters who, throughout the book, tell their own story and Gemma cleverly organises their stories to create an intriguing and magical tale that I can't stop thinking about. The characters are all likeable and could be anybody's friends - I definitely recognised some of my own friends throughout the book.

I am eagerly looking forward to reading more by Gemma and I hope her second book is in the pipeline and will be released soon.

Thank you to Random Things Blog Tours for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Blog Tour - Effin' Birds by Aaron Reynolds

Today I am pleased to be taking part in Unbound and Random Thing's blog tour to celebrate the publication of Aaron Reynold's 'Effin' Birds'.

44527315Effin' Birds is the most eagerly anticipated new volume in the grand and noble profession of nature writing and bird identification. Sitting proudly alongside Sibley, Kaufman, and Peterson, this book contains more than 150 pages crammed full of classic, monochrome plumage art paired with the delightful but dirty aphorisms (think "I'm going to need more booze to deal with this week") that made the Effin' Birds Twitter feed a household name. Also included in its full, Technicolor glory is John James Audubon's most beautiful work matched with modern life advice. Including never-before-seen birds, insults, and field notes, this guide is a must-have for any effin' fan or birder

'Effin Birds: A Field Guide to Identification' is the perfect gift for a bird watcher this Christmas - it is not the traditional bird spotting guidebook, with tongue in cheek humour annotating the beautiful illustrations.

The book is a one of those titles that can be left on a coffee table (not around small children) and dipped into for a moment of light relief and humour. The illustrations are beautifully drawn and detailled. Alongside each illustration is a description, often of what the bird may be thinking which will leave the reader laughing out loud at Aaron's great sense of humour and imagination.

Thank you to Unbound and Random Things Blog Tours for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Blog Tour - One Christmas Star by Mandy Baggot

Today I am pleased to be taking part in Mandy Baggot's blog tour to celebrate the publication of 'One Christmas Star'

Emily Parker is set to have the worst Christmas ever!
Her flatmate's moved out, she's closed her heart to love and she's been put in charge of the school original Christmas show – with zero musical ability.
Disgraced superstar, Ray Stone is in desperate need of a quick PR turnaround. Waking up from a drunken stupor to a class of ten-year-olds snapping pics and Emily looking at him was not what he had in mind.
Ray needs Emily's help to delete the photos, and she needs his with the show. As they learn to work together they may just open their hearts to more than a second chance...

Mandy Baggot is a brilliant author and I look forward to each release. 'One Christmas Star' is Mandy's 2019 festive title and it was well worth the wait.

With Mandy's summer titles we are often transported to warmer climbs however in 'One Christmas Star' we are welcomed into an English school and into the preparations for their annual Christmas show. It reminds me, in part, to The Nativity film, however the storyline goes much deeper than this with a darker storyline underflowing featuring domestic violence, however this does not detract from the fun and festive storyline throughout.

I really enjoyed the school pupils being a strong part of the cast, their conversations and thoughts all added humour and lightheartedness to the story and had me smiling throughout.

Thank you to Aria Books for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Books on Tour - I'll B Home For Christmas by Karen Clarke

Last Christmas, Nina gave away her heart – only to have it broken. But this year, at her family’s cosy café, could she find a second chance at love with someone special under the mistletoe?

Nina Bailey loves Christmas. Except this year she doesn’t. Because it turns out that her husband-to-be has been cheating on her – and her beautiful wedding ceremony in the snow is cancelled.

She’s not really in the mood to be jolly, sing carols, or go anywhere near gingerbread men – in fact, what Nina wants is to avoid the whole thing. So she’s come to stay at her Aunt Dolly’s cosy café to nurse her broken heart.

Nina is determined to get through Christmas with no tinsel, no fuss – and definitely no flirting. So when she arrives and meets infuriatingly handsome Ryan Sadler, with his gorgeous forest-green eyes, she is not best pleased. And when Nina overhears him making fun of her, she is furious. (There might have been an incident with a koala onesie and a spilled bottle of milk, but that really wasn’t her fault!) So despite the spark between them, and the fact that he can whip up a fabulous dinner faster than she can say Michelin star, romance and Christmas are off the menu this year.

Unfortunately, Aunt Dolly hasn’t quite got the message, going to great lengths to provide a proper British Christmas for her beloved niece: a true home away from home. With sparkling lights adorning every wall and a tree to equal the Rockefeller Center’s and, yes, mistletoe above every doorway, can Nina resist the magic of Christmas – and stick to her no-romance rule?

This heartwarming romantic comedy will have you reaching for eggnog, roasted chestnuts and gingerbread cookies! The perfect festive book to read curled up in front of the fire, for fans of Sue Moorcroft, Holly Martin and Debbie Johnson.

'I'll Be Home for Christmas' is Karen Clarke's third book in the French Café series, however it can be read as a standalone novel.

I really enjoy Karen's books, often written in trilogies, where the reader is able to visit locations and feel as they are part of the community and meet old and new friends with each new book.

'I'll Be Home for Christmas' is a cosy and heart-warming story that will give the reader a festive feel. There are moments of humour throughout the story and I really wanted to Nina to get her happy every after ending as I followed it grow and develop throughout the book.

Thank you to Bookouture for inviting me to take part in the Books on Tour promotion and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Books on Tour - The Garden on Sparrow Street by Tilly Tennant

Today I am taking part in Bookouture's Books on Tour to celebrate the publication of Tilly Tennant's The Garden on Sparrow Street.

As the cold winter nights draw in, escape to the sleepy town of Wrenwick, where the streets sparkle with snow and a lonely young widow is about to find that true love really can strike twice…

As Christmas cheer fills Sparrow Street with excitement, grieving widow Nina is having a hard time. December is always a difficult month to face without her beloved husband Gray, the days feel long and bleak, and to cap it all, she’s just lost her job.

So when Nina hears that Sparrow Street’s Community Garden, one of Gray’s favourite places, is to be put up for sale she knows she must do something. Filled with purpose, she gathers the residents of Sparrow Street around her to turn the neglected patch of land into a Garden of Memories.

Working with her neighbours, single mum Kelly and eighty-year-old Ada, Nina soon finds that she’s not the only lonely soul on Sparrow Street. And as the community comes together and the garden flourishes, Nina can’t help but be drawn to Irish gardener Colm with his sparkling blue eyes and kind heart, finding herself confiding in him about all her recent troubles.

But just as Colm and Nina grow closer and he opens up to her about his own secret loss, Colm’s estranged wife returns from Scotland, wanting to try again. Nina knows she should let the man she’s falling for go – it’s the right thing to do. But what if fate has other plans in store? Will the beautiful garden on Sparrow Street have brought two people together only for Nina’s cautious heart to push them apart?

If you love an uplifting, moving love story, then The Garden on Sparrow Street is the perfect romantic read to curl up with on a winter’s afternoon. Fans of Josie Silver and Carole Matthews will love this book!

The Garden on Sparrow Street is Tilly Tennant's latest release and is another great read from this popular author.

The story is one of friendship but is also an emotional rollercoaster of a read. There is a Christmas element to the story, however this is much more than a Christmas read, it is an emotional read where I felt myself empathsing with the characters and wanting to be a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen to Nina's dilemas.

I really enjoyed reading The Garden on Sparrow Street and I am already looking forward to Tilly's next release as her books just keep getting better and better.

Thank you to Bookouture for inviting me to take part in the Books on Tour promotion and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Books on Tour - The Christmas Countdown by Donna Ashcroft

Today I am pleased to be taking part in Bookouture's Books on Tour to celebrate the publication of Donna Ashcroft's latest release, The Christmas Countdown.

It’s that time of year again, snowflakes are fluttering and the countdown to Christmas has begun! Holly Devine is returning to the only place that feels like home, hoping that some festive magic will help to turn her life around…
Twenty-seven-year-old Holly Devine has just had her heart well and truly broken. Hurt by the two people she loves the most, she flees to her eccentric Aunt Clara’s cosy cottage to hide away over the winter season. But kind, impulsive Aunt Clara has other ideas… She’s not about to see her favourite niece wallowing in sadness during the most wonderful time of the year. So, with the help of her close circle of friends and plenty of gin, she creates a handmade advent calendar for Holly.

Every day in December, Holly opens a new door and has a different task to complete. She soon finds herself asking out a complete stranger – gorgeous, cheeky pub landlord, Finn Jackson. But as handsome Finn gets involved in her festive challenges, Holly’s determination to avoid romance is put to the test. Still, Finn’s far too carefree and single for true love, isn’t he?

As Holly begins to embrace each day – a complete makeover, building the biggest snowman she’s ever seen, singing in a karaoke contest – Finn is there adding fun and laughter to every moment. Holly starts to realise that she can become the person she’s always wanted to be…

But a secret from Finn’s past threatens to turn Holly’s Christmas upside down and makes her question everything she has experienced in the last few weeks. Will Finn open up to Holly in time to show her how he really feels? And will she complete the advent calendar challenges and fall in love this Christmas?

It’s time to curl up for a delicious Christmas romance about daring to take chances, opening yourself up to love, and being true to who you really are. Perfect for fans of Carole Matthews, Debbie Johnson and Debbie Macomber.

The Christmas 2019 titles are beginning to be published and I am really enjoying them. 'The Christmas Countdown' is Donna Ashcroft's Christmas 2019 title and it has got me into the pre-Christmas mood.

'The Christmas Countdown' is a light hearted and easy read which can be enjoyed over a long autumnal weekend.

I really enjoyed the characters, they are all likeable and the inclusion of Holly's grandmothers WI group is brilliant, with them offering snippets of humour throughout. There are also cameo appearances from characters who feature in previous books, I really like these inclusions as it feels like the reader is returning to old friends.

'The Christmas Countdown' is another fantastic read by Donna Ashcroft and I recommend it to all my blog readers who want a read to begin to get into the festive mood.

Thank you to Bookouture for inviting me to take part in the Books on Tour promotion and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Blog Tour - The Christmas Calendar Girls by Samantha Tonge

Today I am pleased to be taking part in Aria's Blog Tour to celebrate the publication of Samantha Tonge's festive release, The Christmas Calendar Girls.

This Christmas fall in love with the town of Chesterwood...
Christmas is meant to be a time of giving, so with Chesterwood food bank under risk of closure Fern knows just what to do to save it. She's going to get the town to create a living advent calendar.
Fern, and her best friends, call for help from the local community to bring this calendar to life. When Kit, the new man in town, offers his assistance Fern's heart can't help but skip a beat (or two).
As they grow ever closer, Fern must admit that Kit's breaking down the barriers she built after the death of her husband. But his past is holding him back and Fern doesn't know how to reach him. No matter how hard she tries.
In this town, Kit's not the only one with secrets. Domestic goddess Cara is behaving oddly, burning meals in the oven and clothes whilst ironing, and Davina's perfect children are causing trouble at school leaving her son, Jasper, desperately unhappy.
Can the Christmas Calendar Girls find a way to bring the community together in time to save the food bank, while still supporting their families and each other? Can Fern find love again with Kit?
This is a story about kindness and letting go of the past. It's about looking out for your neighbours and about making every day feel like Christmas.

'The Christmas Calendar Girls' is the first novel I have read by Samantha Tonge, and it will definitely not be the last.
I really enjoyed 'The Christmas Calendar Girls'. It was a great story with a town's community spirit at its very hear. It has a very current theme running throughout the story as the town work together to ensure their food bank continues to support those in a time of need. This is a problem in many towns and cities up and down the country and it is great that Samantha has decided to include it in her new release.
There are of course other storylines within the book and it was great to see the community working together and giving something back to the community while continuing with their own lives and overcoming their own issues.
I really enjoyed meeting all the main characters within the book and I especially liked Fern. I found myself investing in her storyline, hoping she would get the happy ever after she deserved.
I would recommend this book to all my blog readers and I really hope that it reminds all of the importance of foodbanks and the support they need.

Thank you to Aria for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Blog Tour - The Familiars by Stacey Halls

Today I am pleased to be taking part in Zaffre Books' and Compulsive Readers' Blog Tour to celebrate the publication of Stacey Hall's paperback publication of The Familiars.

Young Fleetwood Shuttleworth, a noblewoman, is with child again. None of her previous pregnancies have borne fruit, and her husband, Richard, is anxious for an heir. Then Fleetwood discovers a hidden doctor’s letter that carries a dire prediction: she will not survive another birth. By chance she meets a midwife named Alice Grey, who promises to help her deliver a healthy baby. But Alice soon stands accused of witchcraft.

Is there more to Alice than meets the eye? Fleetwood must risk everything to prove her innocence. As the two women’s lives become intertwined, the Witch Trials of 1612 loom. Time is running out; both their lives are at stake. Only they know the truth. Only they can save each other.

Rich and compelling, set against the frenzy of the real Pendle Hill Witch Trials, this novel explores the rights of 17th-century women and raises the question: Was witch-hunting really women-hunting? Fleetwood Shuttleworth, Alice Grey and the other characters are actual historical figures. King James I was obsessed with asserting power over the lawless countryside (even woodland creatures, or “familiars,” were suspected of dark magic) by capturing “witches”—in reality mostly poor and illiterate women.

'The Familiars' by Stacey Hall is celebrating it's paperback publication and has been chosen as one of the six titles in Richard and Judy's Autumn reads selection for their book club in conjunction with WHSmiths.

I have heard so many great reviews for 'The Familiars' and although it isn't my usual choice of read I was so glad that I did. It is a fantastically written novel, which is set in the 17th century and is set around a young lady who has been unlucky in life, suffering multiple pregnancies which resulted in loss, and now pregnant with another child, which she has already been told will cost her her life. When she meets her midwife, who has promised her a successful birth, she is hopeful but when witchcraft is mentioned by others, another dimension is added and Stacey Hall writes a fantastic novel which looks at the issue of witchcraft and the position of women within society and their persona and the 'tricks' used by society to disrespect them.

Thank you to Zaffre Books and Compulsive Readers Blog Tours for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Blog Tour - Let It Snow by Sue Moorcroft

Today I am pleased to be taking part in Avon Books Blog Tour to celebrate the publication of Sue Moorcroft's latest festive release, Let It Snow.

44581165This Christmas, the villagers of Middledip are off on a very Swiss adventure…
Family means everything to Lily and Zinnia Cortez and, growing up in their non-conventional family unit, they and their two mums couldn’t have been closer.
So it’s a bolt out of the blue when Lily finds her father wasn’t the anonymous one-night stand she’s always believed. She is in fact the result of her mum's reckless affair with a married man.
Confused, but determined to discover her true roots, Lily sets out to find the family she’s never known – an adventure that takes her from the frosted, thatched cottages of Middledip to the snow-capped mountains of Switzerland, via a Christmas market or two along the way…

Sue Moorcroft is back with this year's festive release, Let It Snow. There are a number of authors who I look forward to at this time of the year, and Sue Moorcroft is definitely high on this list. Her festive publications are always full of festive cheer and great settings, all ready to get readers in the Christmas mood and Let It Snow is 2019's entry into the 2019 must read Christmas releases!

'Let It Snow' is set in Switzerland and its beautiful landscapes provide the beautiful backdrop for Sue's great storylines. There are Christmas markets, cuckoo clocks and lots of snow everywhere, all of which are perfectly described throughout the book. However it is also great to have some of the book set in Middledip, a firm favourite location of Sue's books, and it was like returning to a favourite holiday destination as it has been the location of a number of Sue's back catalogue of books.

'Let It Snow' is a lovely festive read, although it can be read at anytime of the year and I can recommend it to all of my blog readers.

Thank you to Avon Books for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Robin was the "it" girl in school, destined for success. Now she's back at her parents' with her four-year-old son, vowing that her ne'er-do-well ex is out of the picture for good.
Edie has everything she could want, apart from a baby, and the acceptance of her new neighbours. She longs to be one of the girls, and to figure out why her perfect husband seems to be avoiding their perfect future.
Three women looking for a fresh start on idyllic Pine Road. Their friendship will change their lives, and reveal secrets they never imagined. Liane Moriarty meets Lisa Jewell in this story of the love affairs, rivalries and scandals that hide behind every door...
From the bestselling, prize-winning author of Love in Row 27 and Grace After Henry

I really enjoyed Eithne Shortall's previous release, Grace After Henry, and have been looking forward to reading her next release. Well that time has come and 'Three Little Truths' was worth the wait.

Three strong female lead characters, each with their own way of life, which has recently changed and 'Three Little Truths' follows each woman as they try and understand what has happened and how to carry on.

There are many moments of humour and hilarity but underlying there is a uplifting and empowering story of women working to better themselves and their lives.

Eithne has cleverly interwoven three women's tales which come together in modern day life and I could imagine this happening in today's world.

This is a great read and one to curl up with on an Autumn's day.

Thank you to Corvus and Random Things Blog Tours for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Books on Tour - Good Little Liars by Sarah Clutton

Today I am pleased to be taking part in Bookouture's Books on Tour promotion to celebrate the publication of Sarah Clutton's release 'Good Little Liars'

Emma held the photo for a long moment before her eyes focused on the girl’s face. She dropped it and let out a muted cry. The girl in the photograph was Tessa.

Twenty-five years after losing her friend Tessa in a tragic accident, Emma’s life is happy and settled. She rarely thinks about the day that Tessa fell to her death, or the secret that she made Emma swear to keep just hours before. But when her marriage implodes, Emma and her daughter find themselves unexpectedly moving into the headmaster’s former cottage on the grounds of her old school – Denham House. And it’s here she finds the photograph: an explicit image of Tessa, looking directly at the camera.

Between catching up with old friends Marlee and Clementine, who are home for a reunion, and the demands of single parenthood, Emma has plenty to distract her… but she can’t shake the image of the photograph. Or the thought that it’s proof of something she had long suspected: Dr Brownley, now headmaster, was involved with Tessa. Was it a mistake to keep quiet about what she knew?

Marlee and Clementine have their own complex feelings about returning to their hometown. And when Emma starts to question what really happened to Tessa, each woman must deal with the consequences of decisions they made all those years ago. Because the more Emma digs into the past, the more she discovers that everyone remembers it differently, and that the innocent schoolgirls she thought she knew are hiding some very big secrets.

A page-turning novel about family drama, lies, and the secrets we keep to protect those we love. Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, The Silent Wife and Kerry Lonsdale.

'Good Little Liars'  is Sarah Clutton's debut novel and is a a great novel set around a tradegy that happened during the last year of school for Emma where she lost her best friend, Tessa.

I absolutely loved this book. Based on two timelines I really enjoyed the timeline featuring the last year of secondary school where Tessa was found dead. It was great to read. As a child I loved stories set in schools, Good Little Liars is definitely not Enid Blyton's Mallory Towers or St Clares, but it felt like a grown up story set in a school setting.

The storyline features childhood friends Marlee, Clementine and Emma and they all retell the tale through their own narrative as the secrets unfold and the truth is discovered.

Good Little Liars is a fantastic read and I recommend it to all my blog readers.I am already looking forward to reading Sarah Clutton's next release.

Thank you to Bookouture for inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.
