This is a popular series aimed at boys aged 6-8 years. They are perfect for children who are gaining in confidence in reading alone or to be read by their peers at story time. They are chapter books and the story has illustrations dotted throughout the book.
The Ninja Meerkats books have been reviewed on my blog previously and are a favourite in my house. They remind me of the retro cartoon series, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, with a group of characters working together to right the wrongs of the world and cause mayhem and mischief along the way.
There are four Ninja Meerkats: Jet Flashfeet; Bruce 'the muscle' Willowhammer; Donnie Dragonjab and Chuck Cobracrusher, along with the master, Grandmaster One-Eye. Each have their own characteristics and specialities which assist in their missions.
Their missions take them around the world and sometimes include historical information or visits to foreign cities, all of which may encourage readers to find out more, e.g. In The Tomb of Doom the ninja meerkats visit the pyramids of Egypt and within the story is information about ancient Egypt which readers may want to find out more about.
I would recommend this series as a great one for boys aged 6-8 to enjoy throughout these summer holidays.
Thank you to the publishers, Stripes Publishing, for sending me the the books to review.
